I love that line..."Eating your own dog food". Wikipedia defines it as: a slang term used to reference a scenario in which a company uses its own product to test and promote the product. But to me it means a little more than that. Using the products and services you sell puts our skin in the game, it shows our customers that we have the confidence to run our business on the same tools and systems that we are proposing for them.
To this end, we recently went completely VoIP for the phone lines feeding our office and we're loving the savings we're seeing every month. We're also loving the extra functionality we get with VoIP technology like direct lines, linking calls to our cell phones, having remote/home office phones, voicemail to email service, and of course the fax to email service....though we've been using a lot of that for a while now.
What took us so long?
We're human. Just like you we're sometimes slow to make a change even when the evidence is overwhelming that it's time to move forward. And of course there's a little bit of "that's how we've always done it" in there.....and that's a little embarrassing. In the end it was a casual question by one of our technicians that drove the change, he simply asked why we weren't using VoIP for our phone lines.....combined with seeing the phone bill that morning from the big telco that was providing our service.
How's it been going?
The quality of our calls is great, give us a call sometime and chat for a little while to see for yourself. Calls are crystal clear without noise or stutter....it's virtually impossible to tell you're on a VoIP call, until it's time to pay the much lower bill. The first time your receptionist seamlessly transfers that important call you've been waiting for to your cell phone you'll smile to yourself and wonder how you did without for so long. And yes, I mean the call is actually transferred to your cell phone, not conferenced in and still tying up a line on your office system.
Maybe it's time for you to consider 'cutting the cord'.
This technology has been around for years now and is a stable, reliable way to make and receive calls for your business. The savings are amazing.
