Could You Use A Paging System?

Most, if not all, phone systems today come with built in paging. Often that's enough. If you need to make an announcement to the office you can pick up the phone, enter the code, and whatever you say is broadcast through the speakers on the phones on everyone's desk.

What if that's not enough?

Sometimes though, that's not enough. Or it's simply too distracting for your staff to suddenly have an announcement come blaring out of their phone while they're trying to work or have a meeting with a client. It could even come across as unprofessional.

Or perhaps you have a big warehouse attached to your office and often need to tell folks working out there that there's a phone call for them. There's usually a phone in the shipping office or somewhere close to the office, but if they are in the back of the warehouse I bet you find yourself having to walk around out there to find them. That's not just a pain in the butt for you, think about your customer sitting on hold while you track them down and get them to a phone.

Maybe you have a larger retail operation and want to play soothing music for your customers, or be able to announce a sale or special event.

It's time to install a paging system

If you find yourself nodding as you're reading the above it's time to look at installing a paging system. They aren't as expensive or complicated as you might expect. The system consists of:

  • A paging amplifier (designed specifically for this task)
  • Enough speakers to provide balanced sound for the areas you want to cover without having to blare it loud in one area to be heard in another.
  • Possibly a 'Horn' for broader coverage in the warehouse or the outdoor storage yard
  • The wires to connect everything together

That's it really. The amplifier then connects to your phone system on a specific 'port' and then when you enter the paging code on your phone the output is directed to the amplifier and out on the paging system speakers.

That sounds expensive

It's an investment certainly, but unless you have some unusual circumstances in your office it can be pretty reasonable.

We recently installed a system at a Floor Tile retail business that had the showroom and some offices out front and a warehouse out back and it was just over $1500, and that's the hardware, the wiring, and the installation.

Not too bad if it solves the problems we described earlier. And though you would likely leave the speakers and wire if you move, you can take the amplifier with you to your next building...and depending where you go you might find speakers and horns in place there already.
