In the early days phone system hardware used to be located in a separate room of your building along with the main electricity connections and other systems. This was suited to these older systems which used a lot of wires and complex switches and had to be kept within easy reach of electricians or telephone repairmen who could go about their work without disturbing the office atmosphere.
In today’s digital world, where it's easy for hackers and thieves to break into an office’s system it's imperative to retain your phone system within your own business premises. This will give you greater control over this expensive and vulnerable office equipment and allows for things like an uninterrupted power supply and having your equipment within a temperature controlled environment.
Managing office phone hardware
The best way to protect and manage office phone hardware is to designate a particular section of your office as a systems area which allows limited access to employees. Even though the front end of a phone system that controls all its functions is located within easy reach of the receptionist, its back-end can be located in a safe place which is easily accessible for repairs and changes.
If the phone system is within your office premises it's also not in some basement or storage area of the building with equipment like boilers and furnaces which can shorten the lifespan of your system. If it's within a covered and temperature controlled section of your premises the phone equipment will last longer, as it will be free of dust and grime that it is likely to accumulate in the common building areas.
