What Do You Wish Your Phone System Would Do That It Doesn’t Do Now?

Dave Haggblad - Monday, May 18, 2015 |

Image representing the future of smart phones In today's world telephones are a ubiquitous and indispensable part of life. From the basic telephone to the modern-day smartphones, phones have evolved into a necessity without which life is unimaginable today. Phones enable the user to not only communicate but perform several other useful tasks. However, with the burgeoning pace of technology there could be novel ways in which the phones of tomorrow could be put to use. Let's do a little navel gazing...

Future smartphone features

A smartphone, as the name suggests, provides smarter additional capabilities than regular mobile phones which enable basic communication through text or calls. These include high-quality built-in camera lenses, video-streaming, video calling and mobile apps that aid convenience and productivity and enable people to stay connected on the go. Some of the features that can be expected in future smartphones are:

Flexible screens - Using a technology called Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED), flexible screens have already started appearing in the form of curved TVs. Smartphones will also be able to provide flexible screens to watch your favourite movies and play video-intensive games while keeping the size of the phone compact. The screen thickness achieved is so thin that it can project features from both sides of the screen. So, for example, you will be able to control a video from one side of the screen while another person can watch the video from the other side.

Augmented Reality (AR) - Implies that you can use the camera on your phone and point it to some location and then get information on the nearest railway station or airport, as an example.

Seamless voice control - Smartphones of the future will have seamless voice control through advanced voice recognition software which will enable the user to carry out many functions though voice commands.

3D screens & holograms - Mobile companies have already come up with 3D screens which give a more lifelike visual representation of objects. Holographic projections could be next which will integrate 3D screen features with projections from the smartphone.

What do you want in phones of the future?

We would like to invite you to comment on this post and provide suggestions on what phones of the future should entail and what kind of additional services they should provide to make them even more valuable. We'll take your feedback on board and compile it into a list before sending it to the phone system engineers for consideration.
